About  Fionn McCann

Fionn McCann Photographer

Fionn McCann is a native of Dublin city and works from his studio in Portobello. After university and a couple of years of standing in a field in Co. Clare, in the rain, while living in a leaky caravan he realised his dreams of Indiana Jones were slightly unrealistic. He took off on his travels and his love of photography grew. On his return, with a clear vision of his next career move, he fortuitously landed an assistant role with one of Ireland’s top fashion and advertising photographers, Tony Higgins. Fionn acquired superb lighting skills and attention to detail from a serious master over several years.

Fionn's modern, photojournalistic style to wedding photography, along with his easy going approach, unobtrusive participation and fun outlook, captures the story. Through his preplanning, he gets a real sense of what a couple wants photographically. This along with his ability to capture those opportune moments, are a recipe for success and add up to wonderful memories, to reminise forever.

"Photography was invented 175 years ago. It was a luxury. An almost magical pursuit. Now we are all photographers. But the power of an image is as great and important as it ever was".

These are my images.

Style

This is NOT a traditional wedding service

I have spent quite a considerable amount of time over the years refining my photographic style. It can be best described as a contemporary form of documentation and fine art photography. What I want to do is capture the true story of your day from start to finish. I do understand that there is a need for the more "formal family" shots to be taken, which when well organized can be done in ten to fifteen minutes flat. The majority of my time is spent recording the day as it unfolds, the preparations, service, guests, speeches and the dancing. I know most couples are a bit apprehensive about having their photographs taken and I really want this to be an enjoyable process and something to look forward to. There is no dramatic posing or masses of direction and we are not gone for hours! We can plan the locations, using pinterest in advance and then have some fun with the session. I look forward to hearing from you and hope to have the pleasure of creating great images of your special day.

Albums +

The handmade Fine Art Album is an object of beauty. Hand-bound and covered with a selection of materials, the album opens out flat with an almost invisible crease. The matte-finished fine art papers are chosen to last a lifetime and have an impeccable and sustainable provenance. You have to see these to really appreciate them.

We have spent a lot of time researching and sampling various products and these are some of the results. Thank You Cards, Fine Art Prints, Block Mounted Prints and the Rolls Royce of them all "The Platinum Print". A unique print which cannot be repeated and which is the longest lasting photographic process know.

Nuts  'n'  Bolts

Here is A list of Q&A's which I hope will explain what is involved in the process

Are you available for our wedding?

We are generally booked somewhere in the region of 12-18 months in advance. Please fill in the contact form or call to see if your date is available.

Do you travel for weddings?

Yes we shoot weddings all over Ireland and abroad.

Are there any additional travel charges?

For weddings more than a 80km outside Dublin city centre there is a €120 petrol charge. If the wedding is more than 2 hours drive from Dublin then accommodation is required the day before the wedding - a local b&b will do! For weddings outside Ireland I simply charge for 2 nights accommodation and the cost of the flights. Any other incidentals we can agree on in advance.

Do you require a deposit?

Yes a deposit of €500 will secure your wedding date and the balance is due the week of the wedding or at latest on the day.

Payment methods?

Most couples prefer to pay by bank transfer but a cheque or cash will also work. All payments are issued a receipt and are Vat inclusive.

Is there a contract?

Yes under the terms of my insurance we must have a contract with every couple. The booking is not complete until the contact is signed & returned.

Are you insured?

Yes I am fully insured with both public liability and professional indemnity cover.

Do you visit the venue beforehand?

I always photograph locations and venues in advance. We are then able to storyboard the day together and agree on various different locations in advance of the wedding. This allows for a smoother flow to the day! Please feel free to have a look at the venues shot to date on my pinterest page.

Do you work on your own?

I stand over my photography, as no one can do it the way I do!  For all packages I offer a second shooter who will be able to cover different angles and locations so you get more coverage from your day. This is really worth considering!

How many photographs do we receive?

I spend quite a considerable amount of time going through all the images and editing them down to a manageable number. There will be a minimum of 400 images on the usb but I usually end up giving in the region of 800. All are hi resolution and watermark free.

Do you include post-production work?

Yes I always include post-production work on the images and there is a mix between black & white and colour.

How long after the wedding will we have to wait to see the photographs?

Generally speaking I will have usb of images ready 6-8 weeks after the wedding. However this may take a little longer over the busier periods of the year.
